Call for Papers

Do I get paid for my talk?

Being a community event we cannot pay our speakers, sadly. But you do get your talk published on our youtube channel after conference.

I've already bought a ticket. As a speaker, will I get a refund?

Yes, you can cancel your ticket in our ticket shop, but cancellation fees might apply. Why not re-sell it to a friend or colleague or donate it to someone from an underrepresented group?  If you don't know how, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team at info@berlinbuzzwords.de

Do I get free admittance as a speaker?

Yes, of course! At an onsite Berlin Buzzwords, you will also get free accommodation for 2 nights in a nearby hotel, plus an invitation to our fabulous speaker dinner to meet the other speakers.

When do I need to have my presentation ready?

Your talk needs to be final and complete on the day that your are holding it. You do not need to send the final version to us before, however your short session description will be published online before the conference. In order to get readers interested in your session and make them come and see you talk, keep the description short (limited to 2,000 characters) but pack the most important points / questions into it.

How do I know if my session has been selected?

You will receive an email by about March 2021 whether your talk has been selected into the program.

I've registered as a speaker for a previous #bbuzz and want to submit a paper.

You just need to update your account. Log in with your username and password, don't worry if you've forgotten it you can reset it. On the main page click on "Berlin Buzzwords 2020: subscribe to event" and you will be asked if you want to join the group Berlin Buzzwords 2020. Click join and you will return to the main page. Now click on Dashboard and go to "Add Session" in order to submit your new abstract. Don't worry - it's much easier than it sounds.

My session is not published. Has the submission been registered?

As long as you can access your session from the dashboard whilst logged in, it is saved and submitted correctly. You don't need to do anything else.

Your session will be published once we have accepted it for the conference program. But no worries, we'll inform you via email before we'll publish it.

Step-by-step: How does registration work?

Click here, fill out the form and submit it. The registration system will send you an email with a one time login link. Click the link and log in. Complete your profile and set a password so you can edit your profile later, submit another proposal or edit the one already submitted. Once you have created an account click My Dashboard to visit your dashboard and then Add Session to submit a proposal.

Tickets

How do I transfer my ticket to another person?

In your order confirmation and your payment confirmation emails you can find a link to your order details page. Use the change details button in the “Ordered Items” box to change the attendee name.

A ticket is only valid for one person and cannot be shared.

Will the conference be an in-person event or a virtual gathering?

Berlin Buzzwords usually is an onsite event, where people meet and get together to exchange news and trends in the Big Data open source world. 2020 was the first time we took the event to a virtual space to keep everybody safe and healthy at home. For 2021, we are going fully virtual once again. For all news and updates, please subscribe to our newsletter, follow us on twitter and Linkedin and visit this website!

Where can I buy onsite tickets?

Berlin Buzzwords 2021 will take place in a virtual environment only. The ongoing Covid situation does not allow us to offer an in-person conference in a safe setting. If anything changes, we will announce it on our website, twitter or Linkedin or subscribe to our newsletter and be the first to know!

When does the program start?

We will adjust the conference program hours depending on the location (onsite in Berlin or in a virtual environment). All live online content will be available in a time frame that makes it possible to be watched by the majority of our attendees. Please check this website regularly for updates.
